5/2/12- Louisiana Team Gulps Up Our Trout

Posted by Captain Bill Willis on May-3-2012

Today i was able to guide Kevin Cooley and his wife Laura from Louisiana for some back bay Speckled Trout. With the wind blowing a steady 17mph out of the Southeast we were limited where we could start our daylight search for the topwater hungry Trout. We were able to navigate our way to a great flat that was about 500 yards long, out of the wind and not far from the boat ramp. As i deployed the new Minn Kota Ipilot and started our stealthy approach to the shoreline i could see there was bait everywhere. After a little instruction on how to best use the topwater baits that were already rigged we all launched our lures in to the schools on mullet. It didnt take long and we were putting fish in the box. The bite eventually slowed on topwater so we switched to the Gulp baits and continued to crush the Trout that were all up an down one side of the flat. Total fish caught was around 30 with 14 nice Trout in the box. Kevin is an experienced angler and had no trouble eventually catching up to Laura’s quick lead. Laura did absolutely fantastic and it was her first time using spinning tackle. I had a great time spending the day with the couple sharing recipes and telling stories about times on the back porch with family and friends. I look forward to fishing with Kevin and Laura again in the future and would like to send them a big “Thank You” for choosing Lost Bay Guide Service.
