Captain Clay Hinton

Capt Clay was born and raised right here in Pensacola, Florida and have been fishing the local waters since I could hold a fishing pole. I started fishing with my dad on our 21 ft capehorn over 20 years ago and have always loved fishing the Pensacola area and was fortunate enough to make it my full-time job 4 years ago. I enjoy being a captain for many reasons but mostly because I’ve found that I like putting people on fish more than I like catching them myself. Nothing beats taking someone from a different part of the country, especially kids, out for their first saltwater trip and seeing the smiles our local fishery produces. My favorite restaurant is Peg Leg Pete’s on Pensacola Beach, but I mainly enjoy cooking my fresh catch at home as this area produces great table fare year-round with sustainable harvesting of many different species. Redfish is my favorite fish to target especially when Pensacola Bay becomes a bull red spawning ground every fall. Ive worked with CCA in Alabama catching flounder for reproduction and tagging redfish for research purposes and would like to help jump start similar programs here in the Pensacola area so we can continue to enjoy our beautiful emerald coast and the fishery it provides.
